Clean and Ready

To stick to my “one carnival a year” plan, and a much needed redemption from Trinidad Carnival, I planned a pretty dope trip to Bermuda Carnival June 2019. It was my best friend’s birthday and I did an amazing job convincing her to come. The 4 of us, me, my sister, my cousin, and my best friend, landed in Hamilton Bermuda the Saturday and left the Tuesday.

We booked our flights and hotel in March. We stayed at The Hamilton Princess hotel. We also registered with the Code Red band and secured our costumes. The flights were $370 pp and the hotel was $375 pp for 4 days/3 nights. The hotel was literal perfection. There were three restaurants on the property as well as an infinity pool. Our pool day was Sunday, we were served frozen grapes and well equipped with our drinks of choice.

We opted out of any parties and used the trip as a relaxation trip. The four of us were in no mood to party. Upon arrival we went to pick up our costumes before we checked in to the hotel. The registration process was great, customer service was on point. My sister and I got our costumes, but my cousin and best friend had to get different wings, but it all worked out in the end.

Monday was the big day, we all woke up early to do our makeup and make our call time for 9am. Our meeting place was Queen Elizabeth Park Par Le Ville. We ate breakfast, got our drinks, and met the DJ’s and other masqueraders. Then it was time to touch the road, and let’s just say the road was full of VIBES!!!

The parade route was simple but lawd that heat!! We did two laps before lunch back at the park. After inhaling the delicious food, we went back on the road for three more laps. We only made it one more lap after lunch and made our way back to our hotel. Once I saw my sister put her rag on her head I knew it was time to head back.

Our performers on the truck were Lyrikal, Preddy, and Island Boy. I would definitely play mas with Code Red again. The day we left, we stopped at a souvenir shop and picked up a few things before heading to the airport.

Bermuda is a bit pricey, but it’s a good carnival to add to your bucket list.

Love and Vibes, Nichole Naomi
